Before and After Invisalign®
Common Questions about Invisalign®
How does Invisalign® work?
Invisalign® takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for each unique patient. These aligners are made of smooth, comfortable, and virtually invisible plastic to wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements Dr. Panchumarti plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You simply pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks until your treatment is complete and you achieve the confident smile that you’ve always wanted. Unlike traditional braces, you can remove Invisalign braces to eat and drink, or to brush and floss your teeth. Best of all, most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.
How long does it take for Invisalign® to work?
Most Invisalign® patients visit Dr. Panchumarti every month or two to check their progression and get new aligners. Average treatment time is about a year.
Who is Invisalign® good for?
Invisalign is recommended for adults and teens who have all of their permanent teeth in place. Invisalign® Teen is a great alternative to metal braces for teenage patients, treating underbite, overbite, overcrowding, and gaps between teeth.
With traditional braces, teens often face restrictions in playing sports, eating certain foods, or playing musical instruments. Invisalign® offers freedom from these issues, because the aligners can be removed for eating and for specific activities. Dr. Panchumarti can help you determine if Invisalign® is a good option for your teen.
Before and After Composite
Will people know I'm using Invisalign?
Invisalign® is a virtually invisible solution, so you can smile confidently both during treatment and after. Using a series of clear, removable aligners, Invisalign® gradually moves your teeth toward the smile you’ve always wanted. And, almost no one will know you're wearing them unless you tell them.
Invisalign® is comfortable to wear and easy to live with. You visit your doctor every month or two to check your progression and get new aligners. Average treatment time is about a year. Because the aligners are removable, you can continue to eat your favorite foods. And you can brush and floss normally to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
How much does Invisalign® cost?
In most cases, Invisalign® treatment is comparable to the cost of traditional braces. However, as with other medical treatments, the cost is based on your specific needs and will be determined at your consultation with Dr. Panchumarti. Other factors may include your treatment goals, the difficulty of your case, how long you are in treatment, where you live, and your orthodontic insurance coverage. In the U.S., the cost of Invisalign® treatment ranges from $3,500 to $8,000, with the national average at about $5,000.
What is Invisalign® Teen?
Invisalign® Teen is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teen’s teeth without the restrictions that come with metal braces.
When worn according to the recommendations of an experienced Invisalign®-trained orthodontist, Invisalign® Teen can be as effective as traditional braces for the most common teeth-straightening issues. Invisalign® can effectively treat mild to severe cases, including underbite, overbite, overcrowding, and gaps between teeth.
With Invisalign®, the aligners are removable, so your teen can play sports without the worry of being hit in the mouth by a ball, which can cause real damage in braces. They can also continue playing musical instruments properly, without braces getting in the way. With braces, there is a long list of foods your teen shouldn’t eat, from popcorn to apples and raw carrots. With Invisalign®, there are no such restrictions. The removable aligners make it easy to brush and floss normally to maintain proper oral hygiene.
The average treatment time is about the same as with traditional braces, but the actual length of your teen’s treatment depends on the severity of their condition and can only be determined by Dr. Panchumarti.
What are the benefits of straighter teeth?
- Healthier Gums: Properly positioned teeth are easier to brush and floss than teeth that are crowded, crooked, or spaced too far apart. Properly aligned teeth can help gums fit more tightly around them, which may lead to better periodontal health.
- Easier Cleanings: With maintenance of good oral hygiene, the chances of having plaque retention, tooth decay, or periodontal (gum) disease can be reduced.
- Decreased Risk of Abnormal Wear: Properly aligned teeth can be less stressful on the supporting bone jaw joints.
