Dentures
in Tampa

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and the connected tissues. It is made of acrylic plastic and sometimes porcelain and metal materials, and closely resembles natural gums and teeth. While dentures take some getting used to, and will never feel exactly the same as your natural teeth, today's dentures are more aesthetically pleasing and more comfortable than ever.

Two types of dentures are available -- complete and partial dentures.Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain to prevent the other teeth from shifting out of alignment. Complete dentures can be either "conventional" or "immediate." An immediate denture is inserted immediately following the removal of the natural teeth. The immediate denture protects the tissues and reduces bleeding after tooth extraction. Immediate dentures need to be refitted after placement because your jaw bone will change slightly as it heals. A conventional denture is placed after the teeth are removed and tissues are healed, about 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Panchumarti recommends that you treat dentures with the same careful daily hygiene as natural teeth, and come in to the Sunshine Creative Smiles office if anything about the fit or function of your denture feels uncomfortable or loose.
